About Castle Craig Hospital

Castle Craig was founded in 1988 by Peter and Dr. Margaret McCann. Their experience in directing a treatment programme for addictive disease started in April 1983, when they founded a centre, Clouds House in Wiltshire. After successfully running Clouds for five years, they opened, in consultation with the Borders Health Board, Castle Craig Hospital.

With more than 21 years of experience in addiction treatment and helping patients with addictive disease, Castle Craig offers expert medical and professional care. The treatment process is based on the Minnesota Model and promotes The 12 Step Programme as a means of recovery from addiction to alcohol or drugs.

The hospital is registered with the Scottish Care Commission and is a prime and extra contractor to the National Health Service. It is a preferred provider to major UK medical insurers and is recognised by the Dutch healthcare system and other governments outside the UK.

Castle Craig Hospital is located in the stunning countryside of the Scottish Borders, approximately 20 miles from Edinburgh. The property, which includes 50 acres of parkland and woods, is surrounded by the Borders hills, creating a relaxed and tranquil environment conducive to healing and recovery.
