Admissions from Northern Ireland

We are proud of our close ties with Northern Ireland. Our Medical Director, Dr Margaret McCann, was born and raised in Northern Ireland and worked in Belfast hospitals before deciding to specialise in addiction treatment.   If you are from Northern Ireland, you can apply for NHS funding for inpatient treatment at Castle Craig.  We also admit private patients from the Republic of Ireland.

Conveniently Located Rehab

Castle Craig is located just 45 minutes by car from Edinburgh International Airport & is also easily accessible from Glasgow airports. Flights arrive several times a day from Belfast with Easyjet and Flybe. We can provide onward transport for patients arriving from Northern Ireland to these airports.

You can enter Castle Craig via:

  • Admission through the NHS
  • Admission through Private Health Insurance
  • Privately-funded admission

Northern Ireland NHS Admission

We suggest that you contact your GP or local ‘Drug and Alcohol Coordination Team’ to request a referral to Castle Craig from Northern Ireland. Your GP may contact your local Health Board on your behalf.

Pre-admission Assessment

Once you have been referred, our Consultant Psychiatrist will carry out a pre-admission assessment to form your personalised treatment plan.

We will send you an admission information pack with details of the treatment programme and daily life at Castle Craig.
