At the time of this inspection Castle Craig was still registered as a Care Home. They were at the time applying for and subsequently were granted registration as a Private Hospital. The organisation provides care for people with drug and or alcohol problems. The home utilises the Minnesota method as a model for treatment.
TThis report is based on an inspection by Care Commission Officers Roy Young and Mandy Falconer
There was discussion with Ms Margaret McCann (Manager), Mr John McCann, members of staff from the multi disciplinary team and service users. There was a visual examination of the premises and examination of records, policies and procedures.
Castle Craig will amend their complaints procedure to include the Care Commission and to include that any interested party can make a complaint to the Care Commission independently and in tandem with the Home's own complaints procedure This should be carried out within three months.

This requirement has been addressed.
The service users who were interviewed spoke positively about the care they received.
The members of staff who were interviewed spoke positively and appeared enthusiastic in their roles.
You receive a written agreement which clearly defines the service that will be provided to meet your needs. The agreement sets out the terms and conditions for receiving the service and arrangements for changing or ending the agreement.

Strengths Castle Craig has developed an initiative for the families of the service users. This is a residential course for the families of service users which allow them to become more knowledgeable about their relatives condition and subsequently be supportive on the service users' return home.

Your meals are varied and nutritious They reflect you food preferences and any special dietary needs. They are well prepared and cooked and attractively presented.

There have been no complaints made to the Care Commission in the last 12 months.
There had been no enforcement action taken by Care Commission against this service in the past 12 months.
Castle Craig were at the time of inspection applying for registration as a private hospital. They have since been registered as a private hospital with two separate units. There was discussion surrounding the time it would take for an ambulance or doctor to reach the Hospital in an emergency situation. It was agreed that Castle Craig would develop in house training for such an occasion.

The named manager of Castle Craig must submit to the Care Commission an action plan and proposal for Emergency First Aid Training. This must be agreed with the Care Commission within 3 months of receiving this report
