Healthcare Assistant – Full Time


Castle Craig Hospital is looking for an experienced and compassionate individual to join our team of Healthcare Assistants, helping people with addictions to get better and on the road to recovery.

We are an abstinence-based, 12 Step programme for addictions and have run a successful therapy programme since 1988.

We are located 45 minutes from Edinburgh and 50 minutes from Glasgow, in the beautiful Scottish Borders.  We are leaders in the UK and European rehab field, treating up to 80 patients onsite and 50 over teletherapy.  We also have clinics and networks in Ireland, London, the Netherlands and Sweden.

The hourly rate of pay is £12.21 plus 20% enhancement, equalling £13.73 per hour.

Healthcare Assistant:

Hours of Work: Full-time – 36 hours a week (3 x 12-hour shifts) worked 3 days from 7 according to a rota which includes days, nights and weekends.

Job Role:

Our healthcare assistants are members of the nursing team and support the registered nurses in delivering individualised and high-quality care.

You will undertake a range of duties, including physical and emotional support to patients and families under the supervision of a registered nurse, and in addition, assist in the smooth running of the clinical area by carrying out other duties, including assisting with the admission of patients, ensuring the cleanliness and good order of the Medical Centre and clinical areas.

  • Understanding of Infection Control and Health and Safety at Work
  • Must promote the 12 steps to the patient community
  • Is a team player, flexible and responsive to the needs of the service, 
  • Be trained and competent to perform basic life support and remain updated yearly
  • SVQ Level II in Health and Social Care or equivalent.

Essential Criteria:

Previous working experience within a similar position
Ideal candidates have good interpersonal skills – a caring, supportive, understanding and compassionate approach to their role.   You will also understand the importance of maintaining boundaries.
Experience working with substance abuse is a benefit.
