Castle Craig is an addiction rehab hospital set in the peaceful countryside, just 45 minutes from Edinburgh and 50 minutes from Glasgow.  We are close to both Biggar and West Linton and less than 20 minutes from Peebles.  Our dedicated team shares a common mission: to offer compassionate support to those overcoming addiction.

As a housekeeping assistant, you will be responsible for ensuring a clean and safe environment is provided for our patients, visitors, and staff in a busy residential hospital with an extended care facility and lodge cottages for visitors, all within the grounds of Castle Craig.

You will be an important part of the team that ensures patients in our care feel comfortable in their surroundings.

Previous experience in cleaning is an advantage, but not essential, as full training will be given.

The working week is 40 hours, and these hours will be worked 5/7 days.  Working hours are 07h00 – 15h00.

Annual holiday entitlement is 29 days per annum, which includes all statutory public holidays.

Remuneration: 12.21 per hour.


Main Responsibilities

  • Clean and service a range of designated areas, including bedrooms, bathrooms, common living and public areas under the supervision of the Head of Housekeeping.
  • Ensuring that areas are maintained to the required combined hospital and hotel standards of hygiene and cleanliness.
  • Contribute to the smooth running of the hospital laundry service.
  • Report any faults/repairs to the Maintenance Lead / Head Housekeeper to ensure a safe working environment for themselves and patients.
  • Replenish supplies and litter removal from all rooms.
  • Assist in the provision of refreshments/lunches for visitors to the hospital when required.
  • Develop a positive relationship with your team, staff, patients, and other visitors to the hospital by becoming an integral part of the team.
  • Work safely within company policies, seeking advice and guidance when necessary.

Job Context and Other Relevant Information:

  • A flexible approach – you will be required to work across different buildings on site.
  • There may be changes to your hours of work from time to time and you may be required to participate in a weekend rota.

You should have:

  • A caring nature and positive attitude, showing a desire to deliver the best possible service to the patients in our care.
  • Initiative in identifying and reporting problems.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions in English.
  • Time Management skills and the ability to complete all workloads in the required timeframes.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Driving licence and own transport/lift share due to rural location.

It would be great if you had:

  • Experience in cleaning and housekeeping in a hospital or hospitality.
  • Experience in working with substances classified under the COSHH regulations.

Castle Craig Hospital is in a rural location near West Linton with limited public transport.  All applicants will therefore need to have access to their own vehicle or reliable private transport to commute to work.
