Why Some People Call Running Therapy

Why Some People Call Running Therapy

It has already been proven that exercise can be therapeutic in relieving stress. Running can be a strong, physical tool that can help you with your recovery as running allows you to set your own goals in order to get from Point A to Point B. The goal is not for the purpose of winning a marathon but to be a winner in your physical well-being and mental health.

If you go for a run for twenty minutes four times a week, this can improve your cardiovascular system as well as respiratory system. Your bones will also become strong since those who spend many hours sitting can have weak bones and possibly develop osteoporosis. Running is also a great stress reliever as you are not surrounded by the everyday chaos of life but are out in the wide open green space breathing in clean oxygen. Your self-esteem can also be increased as you feel more control over your body.

When you are sober, running will be a productive use of your time. Your self-confidence can also be increased because running is about setting goals for yourself. If you tell yourself you plan on running for five miles, you need to be nice to yourself and like yourself so that those goals will be accomplished. You need to feel like a winner. Running with a partner or joining a club of runners will cause you to be surrounded by sober people who care about their health and can motivate you to achieve your goals.

Before you start to run, it is best to speak to your doctor first, especially if you have not exercised in a long time or if you have a medical condition. It is also important not to start off with a tough goal like running a marathon but to make an easy challenge and build from there. Create a regular routine where you run for three or four times a week. Running whenever you feel like it can cause you to stray away from your goals. You can also increase the risk of injury if you only try to run once in awhile as on-going progress can diminish away. Running will teach you to be at one with yourself as you feel your heart racing, the focus of each foot touching the ground, and keeping your mind only on running the miles you set out to run.
