In 2003, Castle Craig started a therapeutical drumming circle for its patients
Drumming helps individuals to release their stress and get in touch with their emotions.
“The drumming circle helps patients rebuild self-esteem, self-confidence and be creative,” says Phil Grant, a specialist therapist at Castle Craig. “People learn to drop their blocks of pride and communicate their feelings. They have fun, they dance, they communicate to each other.”
“Drumming also creates community through rhythm,” adds Phil. “The whole circle goes from the individual participants who are sitting with the anxiety and the worrying ‘Am I playing that right?’ to doing something as a community.”
