Treating Z Drug Addiction

Download Our Brochure
Non-Benzodiazepine Sedatives or z drugs are the most common medication to treat sleep problems, especially chronic insomnia. Nonbenzodiazepines interact with benzodiazepine-like receptors, but are structurally different from benzodiazepines. They bond to Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid (GABA) receptors, slowing down brain activity, inducing relaxation, and euphoria, and promoting sleep.
However, Non-Benzodiazepine Sedatives like Zaleplon (Sonata), Eszopiclone (Lunesta), or Zolpidem(Ambien) have a high potential for addiction if used long-term, abused outside a doctor’s prescription or in combination with other drugs and alcohol.
