Patients usually enter treatment in a poor physical state. Regular exercise gives the body the physical strength to overcome addiction – it increases energy & mental alertness and suppresses alcohol & drug cravings, helping patients focus on their recovery.
Exercise also releases feel-good endorphins which increase positivity and reduce depression & anxiety (which can lead to relapse). Fitness is an integral part of our treatment programme and we make sure that all patients have a minimum of three fitness sessions per week.
We have a well-equipped gym with qualified staff. Fitness activities include aerobics, bokwa, circuit training and yoga classes. The fitness team includes Jo Sutherland, an experienced fitness trainer, and Beata Chanczewska, a qualified physiotherapist. The team will help and advise patients on their fitness regimes and we provide personalised exercise programmes for those with specific needs.
Our extensive grounds are ideal for outdoor activities such as walking, jogging, and supervised volleyball. We also use some local facilities for activities such as swimming so there is something available to suit everybody.
Thai massage helps to release stress and tension and aids physical, spiritual and emotional healing.
