Summary
We are seeking a dedicated Chef to join our team. In this vital role, you will prepare nutritious and appealing meals that support our patients’ recovery journey while maintaining high standards of food safety and kitchen management.
You will be part of a busy, hard-working team, cooking and serving great quality food to clients and staff at Castle Craig.
Responsible to:
Head Chef / Head of Development, Facilities & Services
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and cook meals for up to 100 people daily, ensuring quality, attractive presentation, and adherence to strict time schedules.
- Assist in managing kitchen operations during the Head Chef’s absence.
- Oversee economic use of food, materials, and equipment.
- Ensure compliance with food safety legislation, including proper handling, storage, temperature control, and logging procedures.
- Supervise and direct catering assistants, promoting a positive team environment.
- Maintain work and cleaning schedules to uphold hygiene standards.
- Manage inventory, order food stocks, and check deliveries for accuracy.
- Collaborate with the Head Chef to develop healthy, varied, and nutritious menus; provide input on menu planning.
- Support events organised by Castle Craig, including the annual reunion.
- Drive the kitchen van to deliver meals across the campus when required.
- Coordinate food production activities and ensure efficient kitchen management.
- Work with healthcare staff to accommodate special dietary requirements.
- Contribute to patient well-being through high-quality meal preparation.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Chef, ideally in healthcare or hospitality settings.
- Culinary qualifications or relevant certifications preferred.
- Hold an Elementary Food Hygiene qualification; Intermediate Hygiene certification preferred.
- Practical experience across all kitchen operations.
- Strong knowledge of food hygiene and safety standards.
- Ability to cater for varied and special diets.
- Experience supervising kitchen staff and managing teams effectively.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure and within a high-performing team.
- Valid driving license.

£30,000 – £32,000 (prorate), dependent on experience and qualifications.
