Drug and Alcohol Rehab Liverpool: Helping People Overcome Addiction for Over 30 Years
Liverpool is often referred to as ‘the drug capital of the UK‘ with the rate of substance misuse rising year on year.
Merseyside is one of the worst-affected areas in the UK, with residents witnessing first-hand the devastating effects that drug abuse has had on their community. The city has seen a staggering jump in the number of people who died from substance misuse in recent years, with figures almost doubling since 2014.
Successful recovery from drug and alcohol addiction first requires eliminating physical dependence, followed by intensive therapy in order to overcome the psychological aspects and causes of addiction.
Castle Craig is a residential rehabilitation clinic that has helped people in Liverpool overcome alcoholism and addiction to illicit and prescription drugs for more than 30 years. We also treat other behavioural addictions such as gambling and cryptocurrency addiction. If you or someone you know are in Liverpool and have an addiction problem we can help you.

Engineering student Ellie Wilson, 16 was raised in Egerton Court, a block of flats notorious for drug dealing and use. Despite her youth, Ellie was under no illusions about what was going on around her. She said: “A lot of people here take heroin and crack, and they come here when they get out of prison. “If you were taking a family you would not want to live over here, especially this place.” From her time living in Egerton Court, Ellie said the origins of the crack and crack Crack Cocaine Addiction making life miserable for many locals was no secret.

Inpatient Rehab vs Outpatient Rehab Near Liverpool
Deciding to enter rehab for addiction can feel like a daunting first step, and once you’ve done so, you must then consider whether you wish to attend inpatient or outpatient treatment. This choice will ultimately depend on the severity of your addiction and whether you have any additional needs. When deciding on the type of care you require, it’s always best to call the clinic directly for advice on which course of treatment is best suited to your needs.
Outpatient rehab is also referred to as ‘day rehab’ and involves patients attending sessions during the day. This type of treatment programme is ideal for people who are unable to commit to a residential stay. However, while the flexibility appeals to many prospective patients, it isn’t considered an appropriate course of treatment for someone who has been abusing substances over a prolonged period.
Inpatient rehab is considered the most effective form of addiction treatment and requires patients to stay at the clinic for the duration of their programme. Choosing to complete your treatment in a private facility will guarantee you receive the best quality of care. One of the main benefits of residential rehab is that they offer a supervised detox and round-the-clock care. At Castle Craig, we have an on-site doctor on hand to prescribe medical care where necessary.
Finding a Medical Detox in Liverpool
Most people suffering from substance use disorders require a medical detox before further treatment can begin. There are a number of free services available in the city and its surrounding areas, however, these organisations tend to be severely underfunded and can’t provide the same level of care as a private rehab. If you require a medical detox, residential rehab is advised to ensure your safety and wellbeing. Mersey Care runs the Hope Centre, which offers detox programmes to those who have been unsuccessful in trying to do so. You cannot self-refer however you can be referred through DART or Brook Place.
At Castle Craig, all patients receive round-the-clock care during the detox process. We have a separate detox facility designed to provide patients with the utmost comfort while they complete their detox.
Free Addiction Services in Liverpool
There are a number of free addiction services in and around Liverpool, many of which are run by charities and local councils. However, in Liverpool alone, funding for drug and alcohol services has plummeted by 72 per cent, from £12.8m in 2015/16 to £3.6m in 2019, despite addiction-related hospital admissions continuing to soar.

How Long Does Rehab Last?
Your treatment programme will ultimately depend on a few different factors, such as whether you require a detox. During your initial phone assessment, our team will ask you questions in order to determine what level you might need, how severe your addiction is, and whether you have any additional needs or mental health disorders that need to be treated. Once they’ve gathered this information, they will be able to recommend a programme length suited to your needs. Detox typically lasts between five to seven days, and it is recommended that patients complete a minimum 28-day rehab programme.
